Cancelling an AI girlfriend app: what you lose

The cancel button is the easy part. What catches people is everything it does not do: the month you are in, the balance you paid for, and the account that stays exactly where it was.

You have decided to stop. Maybe the novelty wore off, maybe the renewal notice arrived with a number you had stopped noticing. Cancelling an AI girlfriend app looks like a one-button job, and the button really is the easy part. What catches people is everything it does not do: it does not refund the month you are in, it does not rescue the token balance you already bought, and it does not remove a single message from the company's servers. Here is what happens at each of those points, from the apps' own terms.

Where you bought it is where you cancel

The commonest way to fail is to cancel in the wrong place. A subscription bought on a website is stopped in that website's settings; one bought inside a phone app is stopped in the app store that took the money, and the app's own support cannot do it for you. Nomi AI's cancellation policy says you are solely responsible for cancelling through the platform where you first bought it, and adds the line that catches the most people: deleting the app does not automatically cancel the subscription. Google says the same about Play — uninstalling the app will not cancel your subscription.

One shape needs more lead time. Kupid AI's terms describe no cancel toggle: to stop the rebilling you contact the company at the address they publish. That is a request rather than a switch, so send it early and keep the reply. Candy AI points the other way, to a Settings and Unsubscribe path inside the account.

The month you are in is already spent

Cancelling does not cut you off. It stops the next charge, and you keep what you paid for until the period runs out. Candy AI's terms say you retain access to the account and all its features until the end of the current billing period, after which access is restricted to the free version. Nomi AI describes the same: benefits until the period ends, then a downgrade.

You are not locked out early, and you are not getting anything back either. Candy AI's terms set a 24-hour refund window from payment and rule it out if more than twenty tokens have been used; on a token purchase, using them at all closes the door. Buyers in the EU and UK get a 14-day withdrawal right on the first purchase, not on the renewals after it. Nomi AI's refund policy is blunter: no refunds for buyer's remorse, lack of usage or dissatisfaction, and nothing owed for unused time if you close an account early.

Cancelling protects exactly one payment: the next one. Everything already on the card is gone, and so is everything already in the account.

Cancelling an AI girlfriend app forfeits the balance

If the app runs a coin, token or chip economy on top of the subscription, check the balance before you press anything. Usually it dies with the subscription. Candy AI's terms say remaining tokens expire and become unusable at the end of the billing period, and that unused tokens do not carry over into a later subscription. Your renewal date is a deadline for spending money you have already spent.

Kupid AI draws a finer, fairer line. Coins credited at no extra charge — the monthly allowance, trial, promotional and gifted coins — expire six months after they are credited, and are then removed automatically with no refund or compensation. Coin packs you paid for separately do not expire. Either way the move is the same and unglamorous: before the period ends, spend the allowance on whatever you were saving it for. Our guide to what the tiers actually buy covers how these second economies are priced.

What the free side still gives you

When the period ends you do not vanish; you land on the free version of whatever you were using. How soft that landing is varies enormously.

SpicyChat AI has the gentlest one of the apps we list. Its help pages say the core chat will stay free, so a lapsed account keeps its characters and conversations, with a smaller context window, a queue when the service is busy, no video and no App Store app. Its paid tiers sell memory, better models and scene pictures, so what you lose is depth rather than access. Its Visit has the current plans, from $4.95 a month as of September 2026. GoLove AI is the other generous landing: text chat, voice messages and standard photos stay free, with daily rewards for the rest. Its library is female only and its generator takes no text prompts, which rules it out for some people entirely. Plans start from $4.15 a month billed yearly as of September 2026, through its Visit.

Other landings are harder. Nomi AI's free tier is one companion and a couple of images, so a downgrade narrows what you can reach. Nectar AI's free tier reportedly will not let you chat with characters you made yourself. Candy AI keeps text chat unlimited on paid plans even with an empty token balance, so dropping to free is a real step down. The free plans list sets out what each free side includes — worth reading before you subscribe, not after.

Cancelling is not deleting

This is the part most people get wrong, and the one whose consequences outlast the money. A cancellation is a billing instruction: it tells the company to stop charging you. It says nothing about the account, the characters you wrote, the pictures you generated or the chat logs.

A small account card on the left with two lines leaving it: a dashed one ending at a tall bar beside a much shorter one, and a solid one running on to a box whose three rows are still completely filled in bright pink
one fork stops the billing; the other carries on to the data, untouched

Some apps clear things out on their own schedule. Candy AI's terms reserve the right to remove account content after defined periods of inactivity, and say removed content is not subject to reimbursement or restoration. That is housekeeping in their interest, on a clock you do not control. Kupid AI's terms say the licence you granted ends when you delete your content or your account, without describing how — which in practice means asking support.

If you want the data gone, ask separately and explicitly. In the UK and across the EU you have a right to erasure: you can ask an organisation to delete the data it holds about you, in writing for proof, and it has one calendar month to respond. Send it from the address on the account, name what you want erased, and do it after you have saved anything worth keeping. Our privacy checklist covers what to look for on the way in, which is a better time to find out than on the way out.

A five-minute exit list

In order, because the order matters more than the effort.

  1. Find the renewal date and the biller. Website or app store decides where you cancel and how much notice you need.
  2. Spend the balance. Tokens, coins and chips usually expire with the period.
  3. Save what you want to keep. Export or screenshot the characters and images that matter.
  4. Cancel where you were billed, and keep the confirmation.
  5. Ask for deletion separately, in writing. Cancelling never does this for you.
  6. Check next month's statement. Billing here is deliberately discreet, which makes a renewal you thought you had stopped easy to miss.

If you are leaving because the app was the wrong fit rather than the whole category, the ranking shows what each one's free side and paid tiers include on its card.

Frequently asked questions

Does cancelling an AI girlfriend app delete my data?

No. Cancelling stops the billing and nothing else: your account, characters and chat history stay on the company's servers. Ask for removal separately — in the UK and EU, under your right to erasure.

Do I get a refund if I cancel in the middle of a month?

Almost never. You keep access until the period you paid for runs out, and nothing is returned for the unused part. Refund windows, where they exist, are often measured in hours and are void once you have used what you bought.

What happens to my characters when the subscription ends?

The account is downgraded to the free version rather than closed, so the characters usually still exist; the question is how much of them you can reach. Check the free tier's limits on companions, memory and images before you cancel.
